Amy (aMe) Perlman was born in Washington, DC in 1972. An early and critical influence on Ms. Perlman’s
art came from her grandfather, the renowned artist Herman Perlman (1904-1995). Mr. Perlman, an early cartoonist at Disney, gained critical acclaim for his graphic caricatures in the Washington Post in the 1930's
and Judaic-themed sandblasted glass panels and sculptures in the 1950's, 60's and 70's that are still on display in numerous public venues.  She spent much time in his downtown DC studio as a child, full of tools and imagery, where she sometimes sat with him at his drafting table while he worked.

Ms. Perlman received a B.A. interdepartmental degree in Geography and Fine Art from the University of Delaware, and continued her studies in landscape painting and printmaking at the Washington Studio School, the Chautauqua School of Art, and the Art League.  She studied illustration with The Guild of Natural Science Illustration as well as The Botanical School of Art and Illustration through Brookside Gardens in Maryland.

Amy’s passion for art is intertwined with her passion for the nature, an important source of healing and
spiritual growth.  Inspired by her travel experiences and exploration of geospatial and organic patterns found in the natural world, she expresses her own reflections through landscape painting and printmaking.

Amy’s paintings and relief prints have been featured in solo and juried group exhibitions throughout the United States and Canada.  She received an award from The National Park Service in recognition of her interpretive illustrations.

In addition to painting and printmaking, Amy designs ketubah illustrations on commission. She also creates murals and other decorative painting for various private and public venues throughout the Washington area.
Am was a designer of faux finishes for The Valley Craftsmen in Baltimore, and worked as a set designer and scenic artist for Adventure Theater in Glen Echo Park, MD.  She also teaches art and facilitates public art projects with children.

Amy Perlman Gura currently lives and works in Alexandria, VA along with her husband Alan Gura and her dearest creation, her son, Micah, born July 2007.
